Our strategic priority: build the political will and community coalitions to win safe, equitable transportation across Santa Barbara County for the people who need it most.
Advocacy
Strategic advocacy is one of MOVE’s four priorities through 2028: building the ideas and coalitions it takes to win safe, equitable transportation policy and funding countywide.
This is hands-on work, and it’s wonky. We’re looking for people who can analyze data, map a corridor, dig through a staff report, write clearly, or testify persuasively, plus anyone with subject-matter expertise or lived experience of walking, biking, and transit in our community. Policy experience is welcome but not required.
The group produces policy analysis and white papers, rapid responses when an issue hits a public agenda on short notice, and testimony at the meetings where decisions get made. Members also design and run local advocacy campaigns as needed. It includes MOVE staff, board, and community members.
The commitment: Two-year term, 2026 to 2028. About 4 to 6 hours a month. One standing meeting monthly, remote by default, with occasional in-person gatherings (roughly quarterly or at milestones).
Apply today. The form takes about 20 minutes and closes Tuesday, September 8. Questions: advocacy@moveSBcounty.org. The application is in English; if you need language support to apply, reach out and we’ll figure it out together.
P.S. Think this webpage needs more content? You are right and should apply to the working group so you can be the one to add it!
